While Adam Opel used racing to publicize its bicycles and automobiles, Buick and other early American automakers formed racing teams and built special race cars to publicize their vehicles. The Buick race team’s famous "Bug" racer set a new speed record of 115 miles per hour. The driver of the car at left is Louis Chevrolet, Buick’s most popular driver at the time.
