Starting as the supplier of bodies to Cadillac, Fisher Body had become the exclusive supplier of bodies for GM vehicles built in North America before it was acquired by GM. Under the GM umbrella, it remained the exclusive provider of bodies until a major corporate reorganization eliminated it as a business unit in 1984.
