With airplanes catching the public’s attention and aviation design and engineering advancing rapidly, GM acquired the Dayton Wright Company, one of the earliest manufacturers of airplanes. GM made several more aviation acquisitions in the 1920s and later divested them to concentrate on its core automotive business.
