After a thorough study of possible acquisitions to strengthen GM’s position in the European market, Alfred Sloan and a small team of GM executives turned to Adam Opel Corporation because of the quality of its manufacturing network and its management and engineering team. With the Opel family assured that the Opel brand would not be changed, the deal was signed on 1929-March-17.
