Buick and Oldsmobile introduced first 4-door "pillarless" hardtop models for the 1955 model year that made the hardtop roof even more sleek and flowing.

Buick and Oldsmobile came out with a hardtop coupe (2-door) for the 1949 model year and their hardtop sedan (4-door) was available mid-1955. Chevrolet and Pontiac came out with a hardtop sedan in 1956.
