by General Motors. 1945, 1968.
49 pages with illustrations and glossary
This 1968 booklet was prepared originally in a slightly different form for use by the Armed Forces of the United States in 1945. It was supplied in large quantities to help in the training of mechanics; those people who were charged with the servicing, maintenance, and repair of the vast supply of mechanized equipment used in modern warfare. The material was selected primarily with this in mind.
It was thought it might be equally helpful to other people - the civilian mechanic, high school student, or the amateur repair person found in most households. The latter may not have the same variety of tools to select from, and consequently they may have to break some of the rules, but will probably learn some things about the tools they do have.
Step by step instructions on how to properly select, use and maintain the following tools are included:
- Screwdrivers
- Hammers
- Pliers
- Wrenches (open-ended, adjustable, monkey, pipe, box, socket, set-screw, spanner,
- Chisels
- Vice Jaws
- Punches
- Files
- Hacksaws
- Feeler Gages
- Measuring Units
- Micrometers
- Screw Extractors
- Carpenter’s Tools (nail hammer, ripping bar, hand saws,
This booklet was not created as a theoretical textbook. It was more of a lecture from a good mechanic with years of practical experience in the shop. The illustrations carry much of the story. The drawings of Primitive Pete contained in this booklet are copyrighted by Walt Disney Productions, 1943.
