First Major Corporation to Adopt Sullivan Principles
GM was the first company to adopt the Sullivan Principles—a powerful tool for helping end apartheid in the Republic of South Africa. GM still embraces these global principles 30 years later in GM’s operations around the globe. The Sullivan Principles were established by the Rev. Leon Sullivan in 1977, the first African American on GM’s Board of Directors.
